Survival Training Meet-up

The Delaware Department of Agriculture extends an invitation to the public to attend two evening educational workshops. The workshop topic is “introduction into the art and craft of beekeeping”. Both workshops and will be held at the Redden State Forest Education building, 18074 Redden Forest Drive, Georgetown, DE.
There is no charge for participation, however space is limited and pre-registration will be required.
The lectures and demonstrations will provide an opportunity for individuals interested in beekeeping, gardening, or involved in 4-H, Scouting, home school or related outdoor activities to obtain information about keeping bees and the industry in Delaware.
Presenters will include Eastern Apiculture Society “Master Beekeeper” Mr. Dean Burroughs, State Apiarist Robert Mitchell and others.

7:00 – 7:30“What is a Beekeeper? And why keep bees?”
7:30 – 8:00 Honey Bee biology
8:00 – 8-30 Basic beekeeping equipment
Session 2 (Thursday, October 25) 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
7:00 – 7:30 “Bees and other stinging insects” handling “bees” safely
7:30 – 8:00 “Selecting and obtaining bee stock, apiary site selection, more equipment basics”
8:00 – 8:30 Seasonal management of bee colonies
